Last winter, Kristen and Sarah were at a club in downtown New York (They're still not sure why).

The coat check was expensive and the dance floor was hot and sweaty, so Kristen stashed her jacket in a dark corner somewhere in the vicinity of the DJ booth, praying nothing would be stolen out of the pockets, while Sarah kept accidentally whacking people on the dance floor with her gigantic purse.

Determined to avoid this in the future, Kristen designed a scarf that functioned as a small tote so that someone could shed his or her coat or bag but still keep valuable items safe and close. Thus, the Julian Scarf was born.

Marxist Fruit Bowl is a typical wooden ladder with a traditional wooden fruit tray permanently attached atop; the two components are recast as a single entity — a fruit bowl — that speaks to production issues and social relations surrounding the consumption of fruit in America. Its utility as a fruit bowl necessitates that users climb the ladder, acknowledging in a small way the efforts of the often migrant - or itinerant - fieldworkers who make possible the quantity and variety of produce available for so many others’ enjoyment.

Ceramic Speakers are made from porcelain, cork, and Baltic birch. Each material is minimally finished, left to add its natural beauty to the design. The included amplifier is made from stainless steel sheet metal, with a cast iron base and paulownia volume slider. Aside from the electronic components, plastic is completely avoided in the system’s construction.

The Ceramic Speakers’ custom-made drivers, porcelain and cork enclosures, and Tripath ampli- fier reveal every nuance. They will show the difference between lossless and mp3 files, and will unlock vinyl’s richness.

We stumbled upon some tinted vintage safety glasses in Bushwick in 2008 and thought that they not only looked rad but were designed incredibly well. This design plays with iconic chair forms and '2 for 1' scenarios. The same routing path cuts two chair profiles a the same time. In this version, the baltic birch profiles are laminated together to make a complete chair. The smaller profile nests within the larger profile, which allows each owner to store, use and adapt these chairs in a multitude of ways.

The chair can be cut from a variety of flat materials. The flexibility of the material palette allows one to bring any sheet of material, either reclaimed or new, to the CNC mill for cutting. The alternate material palette includes cardboard, mdf, masonite, and acrylic or whatever you have lying around!

It’s tragically ironic that tobacco was first celebrated for its medicinal value while its contemporary legacy is of disease and addiction. For the smoker, there is a strong link between time and the next cigarette. The Next clock symbolizes this connection, and can also be used to regulate actual consumption by placing cigarettes in the holes for the desired smoking times and then removing when time to smoke.

The French ambassador to Portugal, Jean Nicot, returned to Paris in 1561 with the tobacco plant, believing it to have great medicinal properties and capable of healing even “King’s Evil”, a form of tuberculoses. While the tobacco plant itself was initially called Nicotina, today “nicotine” refers only to its active, addictive ingredient.

The top of the table is structured as a grid of concrete pixels. Each time a new table is produced, one pixel is removed from the design. Following these rules of self-destruction, the shape becomes more intricate as it diminishes.

This project converges elements of mass production and handmade craftsmanship, resulting in a limited edition series of entirely unique tables that will continue until the shape is no longer practical.

Coil reduces the iconic table lamp down to the absolute minimum of defining elements. A single electrical cord coils around what appears to be an empty volume, defining the iconic form of a table lamp and ultimately powering a single light bulb.

The entire lamp is created exclusively from a 100 foot extension cord that has been wrapped around a laser-cut clear acrylic form. This simple transformation elevates the status of the humble extension cord to the realm of domestic design.

'Handmade' Coil Lamps are numbered and signed limited editions, that are hand-coiled and come ready to plug in and use. Included are the acrylic frame, the bulb adaptor, 100' orange extension cord, and 1 CFL lightbulb.

DIY Coil Lamp Kit:
‘D.I.Y’ Coil Lamp Kits allow the buyer to participate in the design process by having them wrap their own extension cord to complete the form. If any piece embodies Refined Sugar Studio, it is the Refined Cereal Box Light. Fortified with its unabashed and affectionate nod to the ever-loved sugar-encrusted morsels we call breakfast. Each Gourd Ensemble is made from laser cut cardboard, which laminates to constitute a new assembly that is based on a vernacular martin gourd houses of the rural South. The Gourd Ensemble serves an infrastructure for each bird to fill with pinestraw as they make each structure their home.
